KEYNOTE SPEAKERs

Bill Lockyer, California State Treasurer
Californians on November 7, 2006 elected Bill Lockyer as the 32nd State Treasurer. From 1999-2006, Lockyer served as California Attorney General and left a lasting legacy at the Department of Justice. Prior to his election as Attorney General in 1998, Lockyer served for 25 years in the California Legislature, culminating his Capitol career with a stint as Senate President pro Tempore.

A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Lockyer earned his law degree from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento while serving in the State Senate. He also received a teaching credential from California State University.

Rachelle Chong
Commissioner, California Public Utilities Commission
Commissioner Rachelle Chong was appointed to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) by Governor Schwarzenegger in January 2006. She has been a career communications regulatory attorney, practicing before both the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as well as the CPUC with the law firms of Kadison, Pfaelzer, Woodard, Quinn & Rossi and Graham & James. In May 1994, President Clinton nominated Commissioner Chong to the FCC  She is a graduate of UC Berkeley and UC Hastings College of the Law.

 

Doug Henton
President, Collaborative Economics

Doug has more than 30 years of experience in innovation and economic development at the national, regional, state, and local levels.  Doug is nationally recognized for his work in bringing industry, government, education, research, and community leaders together around specific collaborative projects to improve regional competitiveness.

Doug is a consultant to the California Economic Strategy Panel, California’s state economic strategy process linked to innovation, industry clusters, and regions.  He has worked extensively in California to help develop regional economic and innovation strategies for Silicon Valley, Sonoma, Sacramento, Santa Barbara, San Diego, the Central Valley, and others.  He was primary consultant to the Fresno’s Regional Jobs Initiative, which used the clusters of opportunity methodology to identifying promising areas for development.  Doug has also consulted with the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley, advising on economic development strategies.  He has worked with the Great Valley Center on identifying promising areas for economic development, including renewable energy.  In addition, Doug is working with Next Ten to develop the inaugural California Green Innovation Index.

Controller John Chiang was elected in November 2006 to serve as California’s Chief Fiscal Officer.

The Controller is the chair of the Franchise Tax Board and, during even-numbered years, the State Lands Commission. He serves on 76 boards and commissions including CalPERS and CalSTRS, the nation’s first and second largest public pension funds.

Controller Chiang has long championed financial literacy, and he is using his position to empower working families. Through seminars and free tax preparation assistance, Chiang educates low- and middle-income Californians about taking advantage of tax credits and refunds they have earned.

Ron Loveridge has served as Riverside's Mayor since 1994. Prior to his term as mayor, he was elected to the City Council and served from 1979 to 1994. He is currently the 2nd Vice President for the National League of Cities.

Along with his devotion to the citizens of Riverside, Ron is committed to the young people in this community. He has his Masters Degree and Ph.D. in Political Science from Stanford University and has taught since 1965 as a professor at University of California, Riverside. He also supervises the regional Center of Excellence that provides performance consulting and economic development services for the 11 community colleges in Region 9. Jamil Dada is the Vice President of Investment Services for Provident Bank, Riverside County’s largest community Bank. Appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger to serve on the California Workforce Investment Board where he is on the Executive Committee and as Vice President on the National Association of Workforce Boards he manages to frequently travel north to Sacramento and east to Washington, D.C. to advocate for and represent our nation’s workforce system. His two biggest priorities seem to be Education and our Military. He wears different hats at the Riverside Community College District and also serves on several boards and commissions related to March Air Reserve Base.
